My Second Life - Update 2 - Script to Art

I thought I would just do a basic script to image comparison with Daniel's WIP image of page 1 below. This is a really basic script snippet, but you know, if some random soul finds their way here, one might find it interesting.

When writing this portion, I deliberatly left off any dialogue or narration, instead hoping for the images to tell this part of the story and deepen her characterization. I think Daniel has done a great job in making that happen.

PAGE EIGHT

(Panel) 1. Jenal at a sink in the bathroom, splashing water on her face.

2. She gazes into the mirror at her reflection.

3. Cut to another flashback, to a few hours earlier – we’re inside the nightclub, chaotic strobe lights, the works. Jenal’s dancing in a sea of people.

4. Back to Jenal and her reflection, but closer on her reflective eyes and face.

5. Back to the club, Jenal drinking some alcohol.

6. Another shot of her drinking.

My Second Life - update 1

So this is my first update for "My Second Life"

I'm going to put periodic updates on the progress here.

The artwork is beginning to trickle in and I shall post complete pages when they come, but for now, here's an early look at some stuff, and I shall try to outline what I'm thinking on the creative front.

I have hired on an immensely talented artist named Daniel Lapham on this project.

Here's a work-in-progress of Page 8 that he drew:

I am very enthused by the quality of Daniel's artwork so far. It looks very defined.

This particular sequence shows her in a hospital bathroom, staring in her reflection, and having a sudden flashback to the previous night.

Looking forward, my first thought as far as coloring style goes, is a dark muted semi-cell shaded style. It would probably look fantastic, but I don't want to veer too much into "animated" territory. I'm not that big a fan of bright photoshoppy coloring. This is a dark, grounded, modern story so I'd hope to have something at least semi-realistic. Daniel's done a great job of drawing in the style I wanted, so that's good.

I'm also musing whether I should bypass the inker and find a colorist who goes straight from pencils? It might help create the look I want, but there's also the risk it ends up looking sloppy (as some pencil--> colors work tends to look).

Aah, decisions.

unrelated note, a little teaser image I had whipped up for the concept. It's probably way too vague:
